Thanks Patrick. I wonder if the wider fields are worth it. Yeah, I was thinking REALLY big Dob, on the scale of the scope that's supposed to be at ALCON this year. (Is it still coming and what size is it?) So OK, it wasn't very funny after all. I'm reminded of the finder scope used on the 24-inch Clark at Lowell Observatory. If I remember, it was a 12-inch Clark and just as enjoyable to use as the larger scope. In fact, I did my Mars sketches from there with the 12-inch, not the 24-inch. Do ya'll know if a focal reducer would work visually for a wider field with a scope such as this C8?
Yes. This is the one I use: http://www.celestron.com/c3/product.php?ProdID=358
Can something like this work for a finder for a monster Dob?
Sure, but as has been noted, it might be too heavy unless the Dob is truly monstrous. patrick _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list Utah-Astronomy@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy Visit the Photo Gallery: http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php ----- No virus found in this message.
