Thanks Kim. I've never been to the top but I understand there's some sort of building up there. Not visible today though. Must be buried by snow. As for the comet hype, the February issue of S&T is hyping a couple of comets for next year, with one coming up in March. Could be an interesting year. But could also be a Kohoutek x 2. Fingers crossed. And speaking of the February S&T, there's a piece in there about a guy's backyard observatory in California containing 8 refractors (Siegfried, are you listening?). That might just beat the observatory in Orem that's been written about here oft times before. patrick On 29 Dec 2012, at 00:27, Kim wrote:
Nice pic Patrick - as usual. I've long wanted to make a winter ascent of Timp but my arthritic hips, slipped disk and bad knees will probably not allow it in this lifetime.
For some reason all of the hype about comets has reminded me of H.G. Wells' "In the Days of the Comet". Has anyone else read this? Not his best work, and it has been years since I read it, but it is an interesting novel.
