Ok, "admin" is back. :) Actually it's "co-admin" since I'm not the only one. Joe is right in that U-A is not a SLAS list. As for Joe's statement that I might be able to "guide us back", well, the phrase "herding cats" comes to mind. FWIW, Yes, I am a co-admin and as such do have the ability to kick people off the list. But not even the infamous creationism and climate change "discussions" moved me to exercise that ability. In my mind, U-A is basically a version of the ATSs (Advanced Training Sessions) held after most SLAS functions. At those shindigs just about everything gets discussed including, occasionally, astronomy. :) Those of you who know me know that with a few exceptions my politics tend to lean to the left so I tend to be pretty open minded about what gets discussed here. I really don't like censorship. That's what everyone's delete key is for. No one forces any of us to read anything here we don't want to. So let us try to keep it to astronomy most of the time. But if we drift off into other things every now and then I hope most will understand that eventually things will settle down and the cats will herd them selves. patrick p.s. Speaking of cats, Puss in Boots is a fun flick. On 14 Nov 2011, at 17:31, Steve Fisher wrote:
Sorry, Larry! I believe you are incorrect on an item or two. The Utah Astronomy List and the Salt Lake Astronomical Society are not the same. They are "different". We may have many of the same faces and share a common interest but that is it. I may be corrected once the Admin gets back from his flight but the Utah Astronomy mailing list is in no way the "social network of and for the club". I will be the first to admit that I can and have been taken off topic but I try to keep in mind that this is not the club and it is simply used to discuss astronomy. It is my understanding that Daniel is correct. I even tried to get back on track by indicating how many Spudnuts it takes to purchase a new telescope. (that didn't work) This list is for the discussion of astronomy and occasionally we get "off topic". Fortunately there are people like Daniel and Patrick to guide us back. Just my .02
