What about sticking red traffic safety cones over the sprinkler heads to allow safe removal of equipment should they come on. Several could be purchase for about $100. Get the kind that don't have a hole on top or tape the hole. If some glow tape were put on them they could be seen at night. Even if an agreement is made with the Park people there can always be a slip up. The best solution would be to install a shutoff valve (our a key to the control box) that could be turned off during a star party and turned back on after everyone has left. -----Original Message----- From: Utah-Astronomy [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Siegfried Jachmann Sent: Monday, June 29, 2015 2:12 PM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Wow! I hope it continues but if we don't come to an understanding with Stansbury then we may have to break down at 11:00 no matter the crowd. The water coming on was a disaster for some. Levi and Tony experienced water on their equipment. That was not good. We're there only 2 days a month. I would think an accommodation could be reached for two days. Ryan, You have done an outstanding job marketing our events. The Harmons star-party was also above expectations. SPOC Saturday was amazing. Thank you. We have never had a star-party like that at SPOC.
Agreed. At least for a non-special event (attendance at the Mars parties in 2003 was even bigger).
Now the question is will the trend continue or was last night a fluke?
After putting a great deal of personal effort in to the promotion of SLAS, I sincerely hope it is no fluke. That said, we did have a few things stack up all at once that boosted us a little higher.
We can discuss the details at the next board meeting, if anyone is interested. This isn't a SLAS business mailing list. I'll stop here and simply say: There has never been a better time to consider outreach astronomy as a fun and engaging activity. You can do this if you are part of SLAS or not. It can be very rewarding.
