Speaking of PBS series: Does anyone remember James Burke's documentary series "Connections" back in 1979 or either of the two sequel series in 1994 and 1997? In each of those shows he documented a thread connecting seemingly unrelated events and DIYers of the day that lead to an important discovery, invention or development of modern times. What has this to do with astronomy? Those early amateur (and only) astronomers were involved in such connections both before and as they became famous for their particular contribution to the understanding of the universe. Wikipedia has a complete treatise on the series and the 40 episodes that were eventually produced under the article title "Connections." I do not know if all the shows are available for viewing on the internet, but many are. James Burke gave a fascinating, standing-room-only lecture in the new Salt Lake City Library some years back that I was lucky enough to attend. Did any of you catch his lecture? I hated all the dull history in high school, but Mr. Burke makes it come alive by putting it together in a fascinating way. And touche' Chrismo, Kodak does indeed still make and sell fine digital cameras. Ed
