Those are two activities you don't want to combine--at least within a period of a couple of days. Going from a few meters underwater to 14,000' above is a fairly decent way to enjoy the bends, at least according to what I've read.
it's highly recommended that visitors to MKO stop at the Visitor Information Station (9300ft) for an hour or so to acclimate before going to MKO summit. Haleakala is only 10K ft. and it's a quick trip up and then just go slow for an hour or so before normal activity, you will feel the altitude and some functions are slower. Last trip to MKO, I had a hard time writing clearly but then I didn't have my glasses on either. Aloha Rob
