For the 45th anniversary of the first walk of humankind onto the surface of another celestial body, the Utah Space Association is having Space Exploration Day activities at Trolley Square in the ballroom area on the south side, entered from 600 South (Martin Luther Kind Blvd). This is between 600 East and 700 East. This will be on Saturday, July 19, 2014. Retired Senator/Astronaut Jake Garn will speak at 9:00 AM. There will be exhibits up from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. In the same area on Sunday, July 20, 2014, there will be a First Step Event from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM. The Apollo 11 Moonwalk will be shown. At 8:56 PM, it will be the exact 45th anniversary of Neil Armstrong taking his first step onto the surface of the Moon. At this time a large screen TV will show Neil Armstrong taking his first step. With our future in space, the private sector space industry is stepping up to return astronauts to the Moon, to set up mining operations. Helium 3 and a few other rare elements can be profitably mined on the Moon with current space transportation costs. With a future of vastly reduced space transportation costs, much more mining will be possible at a profit. I hope space explorers will be able to ride piggy back on these efforts. J.
