Hmm it appears that Mailman offers a pretty good filtering device. IF I can finger it out. LOL. We could filter all messages that include, say, images, so they reject. But since viruses come in various forms (exe, scr, zip etc) not sure that we could catch them all. Also, not sure if I know the technical term to use to filter them, though I can probably find it somewheres on the web (google is amazing). Looks like we can remove message attachments that meet certain criteria (positive logic) and we can remove message attachments that don't have matching content (negative logic). I always hated the negative logic stuff ;). Currently the positive is blank (but we could put, say, images in there), and the negative contains this: multipart/mixed multipart/alternative text/plain So, basically it denies everything that doesnt meet the above criteria. Oh, but I just turned this on, it was off before so everything was coming through. The only limit that was on there was nothing bigger than 40k was getting onto the list. So that wasn't an attachment limit, it was a mail size limit. And there were mails getting rejected that were over that size... lots of junk in there. Anyhoo... sorry if I've rambled on.. LOL. Cynthia,
Correct me if I'm wrong but currently it's set up so attachments over 40kb have to be approved by you (and/or Rich?) right? Would it be possible to change the size so that all attachments have to be approved before posting? There doesn't seem to be a ton of attachment traffic on the list but the group is growing. I've never had a problem with spam (or attachments for that matter) from the list. It would be nice to still have the option.
