I'll probably head to Lakeside Friday. I plan to spend a lot of time setting up, calibrating and using a periodic error correction program I bought called PEMPro. It's also supposed to help you quickly align on 90 degrees. -- Joe

I am planning on Wolf Creek for Friday night.

Next Friday will be coming really quick and next Saturday. I'm leaning to a two night observing session for myself. Heading south is out as I need to be in range of home since a member of my family has had some health problems at home of late. So for me, it will either be Lakeside or Wolf Creek Pass next weekend (cell range, and yes, they are both in range of my cell phone). I'm open to viewing at either location next Friday night. I won't be able to leave until around 4:30p.m. on Friday (have to get home and load). The National Weather Forecast for Hanna and the surrounding area is a good one for next Friday. Here's the projected forecast for Hanna (drop the temps a little for Wolf Creek Pass):
.WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT...CLEAR. HIGHS IN THE LOWER 70S. LOWS IN THE LOWER 30S. .THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY...MOSTLY CLEAR. HIGHS IN THE MID 70S. LOWS IN THE UPPER 30S.
So Wolf Creek should be highs in low 70's by day and lows in the low 30's by night (cold night observing so if some of us go there be dressed for cold observing but seeing should be very good).
Lakeside has this forecast:
.WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT...CLEAR. HIGHS AROUND 80. LOWS IN THE MID 50S. .THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY...MOSTLY CLEAR. HIGHS AROUND 90. LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S.
Lakeside thus should also be good and warmer with observing conditions in the 50's that night. Humidity next weekend shouldn't be a problem at Lakeside with drier air mass coming in.
Anyone have a preference? I'm leaning towards Wolf Creek since we have this month and perhaps October if the weather holds (and I am NOT counting on that this year based on the rest of 2010), but I'm fine observing at either location next Friday. It's not looking good for tonight though with the wind and possible thunderstorms. I'm doing a new project with my sketching and observing and have about 16 objects I need to get in and fully sketch on those two nights . . . I'm done with Herschel 400 until January arrives. No matter what, I'll be heading out, just checking if anyone wants to link up.
Cheers,
