I wish I could convey sarcasm in email. Joe, when I was around 10 years old, my grandmother gave me my grandfather's collection of pulp fiction. Inside that box were most of what Burroughs wrote...Tarzan, Barsoom, and another set I forget. I spent the next several years enjoying the exploits of The Lord of Greystoke, fantasized about Dejah Thoris, etc. I also enjoyed many other authors in that box (Zane Grey stands out). I still have most of the books. When the movie came out, I enjoyed it for what it was, but it had very little to do with the source novel. The characterizations were off, the acting from Kitsch was pretty terrible, etc. and then when I heard the budget, I was astonished. It pretty much torpedoed my hopes for a good set of movies about Barsoom. Dan -- Sent from my iPhone. Please pardon any mispelings or errors.

Is the "terrible" movie the one called John Carter on Mars? I enjoyed it. And it's hard to believe there's a novelization of it, since it was based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' novels written about 100 years ago. -- Joe

I knew what he was talking about. I read the novelization of that terrible movie from a few years ago. :)

Good one, Chuck, but I'll bet very few of our readers will know what you mean.
