It is reasonably well-balanced Joe, but it weighs a ton. Takes a bit of muscle to get it going. If it wasn't balanced, it wouldn't stay where you put it. But overcoming the rest mass does take energy, and you don't have the leverage of moving it by the upper, long end of the telescope. You have to move it by the short end, a much less efficient lever.
