My only rule of thumb is to guide at as high a power as practical. 80X seems low- what is your imaging focal length? For prime-focus, 3x the focal length is a good guideline. --- astrodeb@charter.net wrote:

By the way, you have any suggestions for manual guiding? I borrowed a Meade 12mm Illuminated reticle for my 480mm guidescope. I think I'll use a 2X barlow with it for 80X. Hope it is not too hot tonight.

Alas, when you have to get up at 4:30 for work, you have to get to bed before dark. No such thing as a work night viewing session in summer for some of us!
