Thanks Dave, I have learned some tricks over the last few years that help a lot. I'm sure you will be able to take some nice pictures, just a matter of long exposures, decent tracking, and some processing skills. I really dont have a lot of money into my setup. Rebel XSi is still one of the best models of DSLR to shoot with even with the newest rebels coming out. You can get them on KSL for around 350$ - 400$. My camera is nowhere near the quality of the stuff some of the guys shoot with here, but DSLR's are capable of producing some images that are easily on par with the highest end CCD cameras out there. A good example is the work Ivan Eder has done with one of the oldest Canon Digital Rebels: http://eder.csillagaszat.hu/deepsky/deepsky.htm He now shoots with a 5D Mark II, but if you look down a ways - there are some stunning images with a rebel 350D (which had some issues as an astro cam). I just recently got into planetary imaging and processing. I have to say I enjoy it a lot. Shooting mostly static deep space objects is fun, but being able to capture images of motion and changing dynamics of a planet is rather rewarding. Those last few images of Jupiter were really the best I have ever shot and that was probably just because I finally got some decent seeing conditions to shoot in. I look at everyone’s gallery posts and dream of one day being able to post something worth looking at. Your last few posts, Dave, show marked improvement. The Jupiter shots were very good. I mean no disrespect, but the last image posted of Andromeda looked like something Tyler had done. If I could do one shot like Tyler‘s worst-ever, I’d call it good and hang it up. Sadly, that will never happen. I’m destined for less than mediocrity and plenty of it. However, there’s always hope.
Keep up the good work.
