So, if a tree falls in the forest and there's no one there to hear it, does the forest exist? -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces+kimharch=cut.net@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces+kimharch=cut.net@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Joe Bauman Sent: Monday, August 20, 2007 5:53 PM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Are we human because we gaze at thestars?(MostlyOT) You're right, Mike, there are definitely physical barriers to what we can understand. There are parts of the universe that we can never discern because they're beyond the barrier created by the speed limit -- that is, the limit set by the speed of light. The expansion of the universe requires this, as I understand it. That's just in terms of physical realms. It could be even less knowable in terms of other properties, natural laws if you will. My personal belief is that the complexity of our universe (or possibly multiverse) is like a humongous fractal; the more we know, the more new baffling aspects appear. When we solve some of these, yet more show up. Maybe scientific knowledge can go on forever, with new aspects to explore. Just my goofy approach. -- Joe On Aug 20, 2007, at 5:30 PM, Olhomorto@aol.com wrote:

I wonder why the Intelligent Designer would create things that we can never see. I realize that as our technology evolves, we perceive things that were previously invisible to us. But aren't there physical limitations that would create a "barrier" to our awareness even though they do, in fact, exist?
