Hi Dan, When I lived on Kwajalein ('61-'66), a U.S. missile base, a little tracking observatory operated on the lagoon side just a short distance from our home. It purpose was to take high-speed movies of the missiles launched from "Mount Olympus," the launch pad a mile or a bit more farther away on the end of the island. The Nike-Zeus missile was the fastest-accelerating rocket the U.S. had. The telescopic camera in that turret had to track extremely fast. I think the dome was like SPOC's, able to turn as the camera tracked. Best wishes, Joe ------------------------------ On Fri, Feb 15, 2013 7:26 AM MST Daniel Holmes wrote:
As a matter of fact, yes. I'm not sure if Dylan wanted to get an early start searching for the asteroid, or get busy electing a new pope. But he certainly had something on his mind at 5 o'clock this morning.
Does anyone know (just curious) if there are mounts made specifically for tracking satellites and other fast moving objects?
Dan
