  The photo you mentioned where you couldn't hold the camera steady during your exposure of the Columbia may not be as bad as you might think. I just recently had a slide of the Columbia enlarged to 12x18 and it shows the contrail as a faint straight trail, but where it suddenly brightens, the trail is more-or-less a zig-zag. I had my camera mounted on my medium duty tripod for the exposure and used a cable release. I'm sending the original slide and one of the two enlargements to NASA today. If you are going to be at the meeting next Tuesday, bring your photo and I'll bring mine for comparison.
