So what other options are there Patrick?
Nova M31 2006 6 was reported in M31 back in early July, but it's too faint to be your baby. It's like mag 18: http://www.rochesterastronomy.org/sn2006/novae.html http://www.astronomerstelegram.org/?read=844 http://www.astronomerstelegram.org/?read=850 There is a discovery report of a new nova in M32 on 7/27/2006, but again, it's mag 17.2. M32 is "below" or "south" of the nucleus of M31. Can't say it is "west" though. See Nova M32 2006 at http://www.rochesterastronomy.org/sn2006/novae.html Discovery image http://www.rochesterastronomy.org/sn2006/nm3201n1.jpg As far as I know, there are no currently active supernova in M31.
