Some of the OAS members came out to a barbeque at Doug Say's home in Farr West. Bob Tillotson had his refractor set up with a projection screen. This produced a real nice 5 or 6" image. The Sun Spots were real nice. I had my Bear 15 X 70s with Baader filters. I also followed Chuck's advice and mounted a large piece of cardboard on them to shield our faces. The binoculars work much better now that both objectives are looking the same direction. We also had eclipse glasses, a couple of cameras and the Big Ogden Bucket with Baader filters on them. We had a few of Doug's neighbors and couple of other people show up as well. We had a nice time discussing what was happening and viewing the eclipse. One of the misconceptions that I had to explain was turbulence at the edge of the image of the Sun. I had to explain that it wasn't heat from the Sun but was instead the effect of looking through our atmosphere. I tried to see the mini eclipse images in a tree and couldn't see them. Doug was wearing a hat with little holes in it and we did see the images on Doug's face. I thought this was a much better ecplise than the Christmas one a year and a half ago. For one thing it wasn't cloudy last night. Thanks. David Dunn 801-961-3253
