Another accounting of it near Beaver. My karate instructor Bill Rhinehart saw it from his car. He said it was a brilliant orange, but had a tail that was blue, green and orange. It said it only lasted a few seconds and did confirm it was heading east. For what it's worth, someone had once described to me the "key differences" between a meteor and space junk to include trajectory (slow, low flying) and multiple colors of light or fire usually indicating something man-made with multiple components that would naturally emit different colors when burnt up. Hi all, It (the fireball) was actually about 7:20, and although I didn't see it, my oldest daughter Megan (22) did. I was out with the horses, fussing with putting a blanket on one, when she came out to tell me dinner was ready. She started screaming "Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!" over and over, and I'm yelling, what, what??? I couldn't see her and wondered what she was talking about, thinking maybe there was a car accident or something; of course I'm facing West trying to see her behind the trees and rose bushes, so the darn thing was at the time flying right over my head. Now I'm mad at her for not just saying, "dad, look in the sky!" or something logical like that! :-) Anyway, she described it as super bright, "like a huge high-flying airplane on fire, trailing bright orange flames", heading East over the mountains, "but moving too fast to be an airplane. I've never seen anything like that!" Then the final dig: "I can't believe you didn't see that, dad!". Sheesh! Nothing like rubbing it in. At least I had the presence of mind to look at my watch afterward, that's why I know it was earlier than 7:30. Rich --- Joe Borgione <jborgion@yahoo.com> wrote:
Greetings-
The list has been a little quiet lately, maybe things will pick up a bit. I've had a couple people ask about a meteor on Sunday night (10/6/02) at about 7:30 mdt. One friend who saw it was looking east and described it as blue in color and 'Dropped straight out of the sky, and exploded' His description sounds like it traveled in a west to east trajectory. He didn't hear any noise associated with it.
Anybody else get a glimpse of it?
