Ann House was approached by a few of her astronomy associates a few months ago to run for the office of secretary of the Astronomy League, the national organization that the Salt Lake Astronomical Society and many astronomy groups are affiliated with. The president of the Astronomy League, Carrol Iorg , indicated that Ann House is running uncontested and is fully expected to be the secretary of Astronomy League.
With this title, Ann is expected to attend the annual board meeting each year in St. Louis and the annual ALCON (including two extra days dedicated for board business). When being encouraged to run for this office, Ann voiced her opinion to me that she was concerned about the financial commitment that was involved. I told Ann that there are enough friends in the community that would help minimize her out-of-pocket expenses to be on this board.
Having Ann on the board is of benefit to all those in Utah who have a passion for astronomy in that she can voice our interests in the direction the Astronomy League should go in meeting member needs.
