On the down side, there were all those Boots Randolph albums. Cool now, not then.
Not much about astronomy, except I considered Boots a "star". He brought quite a bit of family to ski also. Carol & I saw his last show at the Rose Wagner, before he passed. "Yakkity Sax" lives on. On another note, we saw Bob Hope's last visit here. The lights dimmed and this deep, booming voice said, "Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Edwin R Murrow." He came in from a day of skiing at Alta, where he had visited yearly, except for the WWII years, since 1936! I think he was maybe 90+ at the time. He proceeded to discuss Hope's various trips entertaining the troops. Very interesting event. A very good read is the book Berlin Diary, by then CBS correspondent, William L Shirer (the rise & fall, etc), who was in Germany while Murrow was broadcasting from London during the blitz. He was on the last Clipper to leave Spain. As I said, a very good read. Speaking of Clippers, Brent & Patrick & you other pilots, I remember watching the PanAM China Clippers leave their birth at what became Treasure Island, and take off westbound for the Orient, but flying _under_ the Golden Gate Bridge as they could not gain sufficient elevation to pass above. Seemed like a long run before they were free of the water. I was probably 5 or so at the time. 73
