Hi Michael, I went down to Kodachrome two years ago right before going to the Bryce Star Party. There are a lot of trees in the campground, so it is hard to find an area with good horizons. I also found out that even though it was 90 degrees at 9:30p.m., the other campers started their evening camp fires, so that basin filled with smoke. You could talk to the rangers about setting up to the south of the campground where there are better horizons, or go out to the BLM land to the south of the park. The showers are a nice feature in the campground. Be warned that there are blood seeking flies that come out at dusk, I had red itchy welts on my ankles for about a week after my visit. I did get some nice views up towards m81 and m82 through the holes in the trees after the camp fire smoke cleared. Clear Skies, Mike Morrison On Jun 29, 2010, at 9:05 AM, Michael Vanopstall wrote:
Hello, all --
Did a night in Ogden Canyon at Perception Park campground yesterday. 8 tiny globulars and a PN in Ophiucus to show for it. About an hour after it started to get dark (tested by visibility of M4 in binoculars), the eastern sky was starting to brighten with the moon, and stars looked hazy in my binoculars. So rather than get everything dewed over, I was satisfied with my catch and went to bed.
So soon, I want to go to Kodachrome. Anyone ever go there observing? It should be extremely dark, but I'm curious about horizons. The horizons at Perception were not so good. I'd really like Scorpius all the way up, and a shot at some stuff in Centaurus, if I'm going to S. Utah. Does Kodachrome have a good view to the S? If you've stayed there, do you have a favorite site to accomodate an 8-man tent?
Thanks.
