That was Dave. I was the junior board member in the old days (teenager back then- I think the position was created just for me, IIRC) and wasn't an officer of any kind when the actual coup happened. Even though the "old guard" had been in office too long and had stagnated, they were always very kind to me and were good friends- as were the coup plotters! I felt stuck in the middle, and didn't want to associate astronomy with ill feelings towards anyone. It was about 1979 that I stopped attending meetings and was away for the next 16 or 17 years. I stuck my nose back in the door periodically at about the time Hale-Bopp appeared, though I had been somewhat active with a small group of non-club observers all the while.
