Several years ago I drove to Cleveland-Lloyd, grumbling to myself about the proliferation of wide, graded roads like that one in the desert. I talked to the curator or ranger or whoever it was who protected the bones; we walked through the quarry and had a great time. Then a scared-looking, middle-aged couple came puffing into the little visitor center. They were so relieved to be in an outpost of civilization. "We're dudes, from New Jersey," the man explained. He said they were fans of dinosaurs and had wanted to visit Cleveland-Lloyd, where some famous allosaur fossils have been extracted. But they were appalled about having to drive so far on a dirt road, and seemed as worried as if they were crossing the Sahara by camel. Well, It thought it was funny, anyway. -- Joe
