My suggestion, based on using both 800 and 200 film, is to go the other direction in film speed. Instead of 1600, use slower speed and the old "hat trick," assuming your telescope tracks well for a few seconds. Then try as short an exposure you can manage on up to two or three seconds. Keep track of how long you keep it exposed and then check the film, so you can adjust for the next roll. But that's just an idea.
