I recently presented a workshop at the Western Regional 4-H Leaders' Forum. This is a yearly gathering of 4-H leaders from the western states to learn more about teaching interesting topics to youth. A colleague from USU Cooperative Extension and I presented a hands on workshop that provided an overview of many resources that 4-H leaders can use to teach about space exploration and astronomy. I did presentations from the NightSky Network and told them about NASA web sites geared toward kids and education materials for the leaders. I told them that throughout the US there are amateur astronomy clubs with dedicated enthusiasts eager tho share their knowledge and love of the sky with them. I gave them a Sky & Telescope web site that listed astronomy clubs or organizations in their area, as well as planetariums, museums and observatories. I had a group of over 40 and I cannot tell you how excited they were to hear of all these resources! I do think they will be calling us. Do we have any former 4-Hers out there anxious to work with 4-H clubs again? I had contacted NASA's NightSky Network about sharing their programs with 4-H and they are eager to get their materials into any youth groups. They felt that 4-H was a perfect fit.
