I'm with you and Chuck too. I asked a woman at work why she was (in this case texting) texting a friend to meet somewhere after work instead of calling and she replied, "Well if I call her, I'll have to hear her tone of voice, and if she sounds down or something, I'll have to ask why." I asked her wasn't that the point of being friend and she looked at me as though I were well and truly an idiot and said "no."
