At the time I bought my chair (about 2 1/2 years ago), I researched a number of chairs and this one seemed as sturdy as any. Certainly I have not had any trouble with it except that I managed to tear the fabric (my fault not the chair) but I was able to have it reupholstered for $20. Obviously I can't report on what happens to the chair after 3 years but I see no evidence of the problem you describe. Good luck, Fletch P.S. I just examined my chair and the only parts that could affect tension are some rubber tubes which look like they would be easy to replace (provided you could find the part of course).
Fletch,
Yes, I considered that chair before the other two but found reports that after 3 or so years the tension gives out and your left having to get a new chair. Do you see that being an issue? I know the benefit is being able to adjust at the scope without getting off. My wife sure likes the price on this one better!
The stool may be an option for observing at the house. I kinda of like the roughness of it.
Erik, I'll contact you off of the board.
Thanks everyone.
Jay
