Thanks for the acknowledgement with regards to ALCON 2011 to be held at Bryce Canyon. This will be a wonderful convention and I am strongly encouraging every SLAS and Ogden club member that can possibly come to do so. It will give you a chance to get to know amateurs with other clubs from other parts of the country. We have speakers from both Astronomy and Sky & Telescope magazines along with John Dobson, Carolyn Shoemaker, etc. I am personally looking forward to looking through the Orion 36" Monster Dobsonian at one of the public star parties. This may be the only time some of the principal astronomy oriented vendors will be in Utah and so I would encourage us to take advantage of coming to the convention. There will be a special Astronomical League observing club just for ALCON. Astronomy Magazine is co-sponsoring this aspect of ALCON 2011 and is slated to present awards at the Saturday evening banquet to those who successfully accomplish the observing program. There will also be an astrophotography contest as part of ALCON, also with awards presented Saturday night. In addition will be a swap meet and silent auction. Those of you who may know Boy or Girl Scouts leaders, there will be workshops at the Bryce Canyon Lodge each day for the youth to help them achieve the Astronomy Merit Badge. This a perhaps one of the biggest astronomical events and gatherings in Utah's history and I can't encourage everyone enough to come and join in the fun!!
