I don't recall where he said that occurred.
Big Mountain summit parking area. Bernson also had a problem with a drunken crowd at Little Mountain, a
death a few weeks later led to the locked gate there. I have seen many Cougars and Coyotes no Wolves.
I, too have been in Rush Valley (aka Pit-'n-Pole) and been concerned about
gunfire during the night. I've only heard .22 fire, but it was very disconcerting. That's one of the reasons I stopped going there, even before I moved from SLC. I always carry a small .22 revolver, mostly to make noise if I think there may be wild animals nearby, but I'm thinking about getting a more serious equalizer to have on hand, say 40 caliber.
I remember Dave Bernson telling me once about having to keep an eye on a cougar one night while observing, but I don't recall where he said that occurred.

In all seriousness, does anyone worry about being at some of these remote sites alone at night? I know enough target shooting goes on near the pit that I might be nervous...
