Related, but simpler -- Does anyone know of any good resources for instructions about basic maintenance of a mechanical (non-computerized) equatorial mount? Is this something that can be undertaken by klutzes, or is this too best left to professionals? The thing is, all my observing equipment taken together cost well under $500, and I'd hate to have to pay big money for maintenance. The fine motion controls are a little sticky. I can live with it, but I like to keep things in good condition. Thanks On Fri, 8 Oct 2010, Chuck Hards wrote:
Richard, there is a guy in Tucson who is legendary for his mount repairs, but his name escapes me at the moment. People send them there from all over the country.
There is a thread about it on Cloudy Nights, I believe.

Hi folks,
I'm looking for someone who can do repairs on CG5 mounts and hand controllers. Please let me know if you or someone you know is interested. I would be happy to pay a reasonable repair fee. If this is not possible, I will probably need to send it to Celestron.
