Rich, My experience is a bit different than most. I find filters degrade the seeing unless you have paid top dollar for them. My 8" (refractor) has a minus violet filter in it. I'd like to emphasize that Brent used only 8" of aperture for these spectacular views. I've had similar views with my 6". You don't need a huge aperture for great planetary viewing.
