Steve, About a month ago, Patrick, Roger, Bruce and I had a look at the water problem and you can see that the water is coming in from the corners of the slide off roof. We should be able to find the leaks and get them stopped. I don't think that the problem is from the floor, however; the problem with the concrete in front of the Grim and Ealing bays is because of groundwater migrating under the concrete and causing the clays to swell. After talking with Roger Butz about how the French drain is constructed around the slabs that the drain is becoming saturated with water and then is ineffective in keeping water from under the slab. The French drain flows into a gravel pit on the west side of the Grim bay. The gravel pit was dug into the water table that is the same level as the lake (about 30 inches below grade). The pit is surrounded by clay which has too low a permeability to allow the water from the French drain to flow out. I think we need to extend the French drain with a pipe extending to the lake and that would resolve the problem. If the water table has caused buckling in the pad outside the Grim/Ealing the problem at the refractor house could possibly be from "wicking" through or around the floor. Perhaps not likely but it is possible. Steve

Larry is right. You should be caulking from the outside in. Rain or snow will run off rather than penetrate and remove the repair from the inside. That just makes sense.
I VOLUNTEER to hold the hose while Patrick and (hopefully) Chuck are on the outside of the dome. They are all wet figuratively they might as well be all wet literally (lmao) I will Hoot (ers) my behind off during the process. :) _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy
