Spooky or Puff the Magic Dragon was a modified C-47 and called a AC-47. Here is a clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKOrpyO0z48 On Tue, Sep 6, 2011 at 3:24 PM, Larry Holmes <larry@kijoda.com> wrote:
Steve, at least Jimmie Stewart did not like to fly on the Comet. BTW, was not "Puff, the Magic Dragon" a modified C-47. My first commercial flight was in a DC-3 from Bend, OR to Sacramento, CA in '51 or '52. Ate off china, with real silverware. Men were in suit & tie; ladies in dresses & furs. 73 lh

I don't remember problems with the Constellation tail. (could have been some) Are you thinking of the DeHavilland Comet? With the Square windows that cracked after multiple pressurizations? Steve

I've always loved the DC3, because it's so sturdy and has been a real workhorse for many decades. The military version could fly will all kinds of aitiaircraft damage. But I agree that biplanes are the coolest, and the Constellation is great-looking. (Somehow, I have an impression that the Constellation had a fatal flaw with that tail -- or am I thinking about another plane? Can anybody figure out what my poor old brain is trying to drag out of the murk of the past?) -- Joe

Larry,
They only served L&O in first-class! And Yes, the Constellation was very sexy.

You know, I still feel the Constellation was the prettiest airplane that ever was. And it did not matter how you hopped to observe it. What do you think, Joe? Chuck? Wonder if they served L& O aboard?? (I know they served VO, but you did not want an onion in that.) heehee lh
