Hi Joan; Be cautious in your expectations of that Orion 2" eyepiece that was tested in an SC. Pretty much any eyepiece will give more favorable views in a long focal length telescope than in a shorter f.l. dob. So you might find that when you put that eyepiece in a dob., you might say, YUCK! Shorter focal lengths are stringent because of the more sharply converging cone of light they produce. The resulting aberrations (coma) cause grief with simpler eyepieces. The more "corrected" eyepieces are manufactured to work better with faster scopes. There are lots of these eyepieces out there now, but Tele Vue has historically been the gold standard. Mat P.S. I also have an Orion 2" (35mm Q70) that I use in my dob (f5.5) and yes, it does show coma around the outer parts of the FOV, but for less than $100.00 it was hard to pass up as a "finder" eyepiece. -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of jcarman6@q.com Sent: Thursday, February 02, 2012 2:59 PM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: [Utah-astronomy] Eyepiece Selection If memory serves - a 10mm and a 16mm Clave. If I purchase new eyepieces, they will be to support the arsenal, not compete with it. (Of course, if the view is THAT good....) My current eye piece needs are more 2" eye pieces that would go with a dobsonian (and don't cost an arm and a leg) - I have one 2" that I tested in Lowell's 14" schmidt-cass. It was sweet. It was purchased from Orion for a paultry sum. Hmm, just remembered I have a 2" 32 Kellner, sweet in the refractor. Don't use it much, but I'm glad I have it. . _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy Send messages to the list to Utah-Astronomy@mailman.xmission.com The Utah-Astronomy mailing list is not affiliated with any astronomy club.
