I've been ignoring this issue, but can't keep myself from commenting on this remark of Chuck's...
After humanity has been extinct (on whatever grounds) for a few hundred million years, perhaps there will be some other race of beings to develop a technology. They may come to the same dilemma. But the fossil fuel they're burning will be us.
