Joe, you'd be more than welcome anytime. Kevin Poe says "Yes, there is smoke." (Is there ant place in the west where there is not?) But I believe that the 8000 ft skies of Bryce are better, even with smoke, than almost any other place in the state. Most of the "big" fire is north and east of Bryce, so the smoke is mostly from other fires all over the west. We set up our scopes in the paved parking lot behind the Visitor's Center. I doubt the generator would be offensive to anyone, unless it sounds like an out-of-control Harley, and a red computer screen is not uncommon at star parties these days. Come and see for yourself. I think you'll like it. Please excuse me if some of these have been answered alread, as I haven't had time to read all of the discussion on Bryce. I am sorely tempted to drive down tomorrow also. My questions are, How's the smoke there? Would anyone mind if I used my generator, which makes noise? What about my laptop, which will be on but with a red screen? Are folks camping or just staying up all night? Will it be in a paved area? Many thanks, Joe

He said to get off I-15 at Nephi. Then take hwy 28 to Salina, then at Sigurd, take hwy 24 and 62 past Otter Cr. reservoir to Antimony. Stay on 22 (he says it's paved all the way; watch out for potholes and a rough cattle guard at the top. You should come out right near the entrance to Ruby's Inn and the park. He says it might even be faster than I-15, even though it's only 2 lane (especially if I-15 gets shut down), and it's much more scenic. Look out for raptors like hawks and eagles; pronghorns and other wildlife.
Hope to see some of you there,

I wonder if Patrick is going to fly?
Well, that was the original plan (My motto: Why drive if you can fly?).
However during the recent flight to get the aerial shots of the observatory near Delta the instrument I need to get out of places like Bryce at night broke.
It's still in the shop. So, rather than risk ending up a gooey spot on one of the many mountains between Bryce and SLC I've elected to drive tomorrow. :(
