After the SLAS sun party tomorrow...
Speaking of solar viewing, the SLAS board agreed last evening to buy the "humongous" rejection filter which had been offered to the club for use with the club's newly refurbished DayStar H-Alpha filter and the 200 mm Bogdan refractor at SPOC. The combination was experimented with a few weeks ago but at a time when the Sun was low and with clouds messing with the view. But even under those conditions the views were great. Even the detail in the "surface" was memorable. Tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon the plan is to open the Refractor House early for Stansbury Days at which time we'll see how the system performs with no clouds and the Sun high in the sky. So if you're coming to the star party anyway, it might be worth your while to show up early for a few choice views of the Sun. patrick
