Joan, You can’t discern the shadow on the ground from this photo. Charlotte was out on the deck taking this shot near the end of the display and the shadow had, actually, dimmed. She came out to see why the resident male hominids were so agitated. There were other guys in the group that got photos of the shadow on the ground (I think. They had cameras with much higher magnification/resolution lens than an iPad2) and I’ll post those photos as soon as they post their stuff. You can see the shadow climbing the cliffs north of Moab and extending out on the mesa top. If you had been on the porch you could tell that the shadow was on the ground because trees and rock features on the cliff and mesa top were in shadow, but it is not apparent from this photo. The resolution is too poor. Dave On Jul 30, 2013, at 10:13 AM, jcarman6@q.com wrote:
I don't see a shadow on the ground. The contrail was sun lit from the right side of the photo so any shadow should show to the left of the image. The left side of the contrail is dark because the sun light is coming from the right in the image. The lower part of the contrail is all dark, probably because of mountains, clouds or something blocking the sun light. Nevertheless, a great picture of the contrail. _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy
