This is old news to most of you, I'm sure, but as a policy I don't follow the news- local, national, or worldwide- as part of a recently adopted life and health strategy. Right or wrong, it's my way. But I made an exception in this instance. Having now read Representative Buttar's Yahoo article and some of the local stories about the controversy, I can say that I am amazed such an individual actually holds a public office. This man, as Kim contends, obviously knows nothing about science in general or antrhopology & biology specifically. Nothing. He states that he wants to purge the teaching of evolution from all public arenas- not merely present creationism as an equally probable scientific thesis. Further, his phrasing does describe those who think differently from him as non-believers in God- the very thing that I expressed indignation at the other day and was taken to task for and called essentially a hypocrite- even though I myself have never used such a tactic. Motivation isn't really the issue anyway, it's understanging of the nature of science and the scientific process, and the seperation of church and state. I have made my opinion known on the teaching of creationism in public schools but this goes beyond ideology. Senator Buttars is espousing dangerous ideas and needs to be removed from office, not just made to publicly retract his stated position on this issue. He wants to silence his opposition, not just gain equal time for his ideas. Sorry I'm late getting up to speed on the local details, folks. Now my blood pressure is up again, I can feel the adrenaline in my system and I am upset and concerned that the Dark Ages are still lurking in my very neighborhood right now. I've got to go back to my "no news" policy before I bust a vein! __________________________________ Yahoo! Mail Stay connected, organized, and protected.
