ATMing is no longer a major portion of the hobby thanks to a much enlarged consumer product base than there used to be, but there are a larger total number of folks making telescopes than ever before. The Maker movement and home 3D design, printing, and CNC are transforming the activity. What's not so prevalent anymore is the old spirit of making-do with common materials. That was done out of need, but it's no longer the case. What killed Riverside was the move to end of summer, from late spring. The organizers could no longer afford Camp Oaks due to other activities outbidding them for the Memorial Day weekend, and the resulting lower fall attendance made it no longer financially viable. That is sad news. ATM is on its last legs, if not already dead. I have fond memories of a group of SLASers going to the RTMC in caravans of cars, but that was the early 1980s. Always thought it would still be there.
