Chuck, Joe: I am not aware of other planetariums (planetaria?)in shopping centers. Too bad our great State couldn't support a stand-alone science center such as that proposed years ago. But then, we're not very good at any kind of public education, are we? By "modern" needs I was really referring to modern structural systems, climate controls, electrical power and lighting systems, accessibility, etc. and not really program needs. I do agree, however that the current ("modern," if you prefer) program goals of planetariums and science centers are closer to entertainment and not science training and teaching. Maybe we should just turn over all such publicly-funded efforts to Disneyland, Universal Studios, and such. Afterall, isn't making money now the goal instead of teaching? And how can you make money if you don't simply entertain?
