I did a Messier Marthon once - only once. Yes, too much like work, but it reminded me of something I saw many years ago. First, don't think for a minute that I am or ever was a fan of Liberace (you know, the "entertainer") but I may have been watching one of his TV shows with my Mom or Dad - I was just a kid. Anyway, Liberace bragged that he would perform the Minute Waltz in under one minute! He sat at the piano with a big 60-second clock above him and pounded out the minute waltz as fast as he could, and yes, he did it in about 58 seconds, to the applause and cheers of his adoring studio audience. I've often thought since how silly the stunt was - he and his audience entirely missed the point of the music. And that's how I usually think of a Messier Marathon. Please, nobody take offense... -----Original Message----- From: Brent Watson [mailto:brentjwatson@yahoo.com] Sent: Wednesday, February 18, 2004 9:52 AM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: RE: [Utah-astronomy] St. George Star Party Whether That's too much like work. The moon favors a Messier marathon this year, I believe, if that influences anyone.
