Just watched Brian Greene's The Elegant Universe. Great explanation of string theory! It talked in one place about related work being done at Fermilab. At the end of the show it noted the accelerator at Fermilab had been shutdown. I went online to find out more. September 30th was its last day but I couldn't find an explanation as to why.
