Hi Folks, First, a thanks for the carefully masked/socially-distanced help with the star party at Lakeridge Jr. High in Orem last October. Yesterday, I had an interesting conversation with a parent who attended with her daughter. It seems her daughter is now determined to pursue a career in astrophysics and her parents are getting her a telescope. Always great to have that level of interest, right? Naturally, I offered to help the girl learn to use the scope. The extra interesting thing is that this girl apparently isn't a great reader, but she's determined that will not stand in her way of pursuing her dream career. So now, instead of spending all her free time playing, she's working at reading books because she knows that is a critical skill for an astronomer. Well, I wanted to be a professional astronomer when I was that age too, but life takes you in lots of directions you cannot foresee--especially as an early teenager. But, if it leads to better skill at reading, that's such a great thing! I hope she's able to keep up the momentum on that--no matter what she does in life, that'll be a blessing to her. I just had to share that unexpected result of an astronomy interest. BTW, Let's all wish hard for a few more clear nights before winter is over--maybe it'll help!
