Actually it was General Galland who signed my logbook, but checking the list
of WW2 aces (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_World_War_II_flying_aces)
I found he's way down the list.  104 to Colonel Hartmann's 362.

Still I enjoyed meeting and speaking with him.  A bit weird though.  He was
visiting the base where I was stationed so there I was on a US Air Force
Base in USAF uniform speaking with a Luftwaffe ace who had shot down more
than a few USAF (USAAC back then) fliers.

True, but it's also true that the top ace of WW2 flew a 109.  I was lucky

Get with the program Mother Nature.  If you had thought ahead you would have
set the eclipse in July 2012.  That way everyone having to travel
could have watched the eclipse and then caught a play at the Utah
Shakespearean Festival.  That would have been proper planniing.

Interesting to hear about rooms being booked already.  I heard from someone
a while back that some folks in Kanarraville don't think it's a big deal.

I have spoken with someone from the Kanarraville city council.  He took it
seriously enough that he had the city hire a surveyor to check the horizons
from where the centerline will pass through town.  Happily he found the
horizon in the direction of the eclipse is low enough to allow observers to
see 1st, 2nd and 3rd contacts.

Hi all,

Yesterday's thread about next year's annular eclipse got me thinking about
conversations I've had with a few folks about their plans for the eclipse.
Here are the variations I've heard so far:

1) Ride down to Kanarraville and back the same day on the bus(es) SLAS plans
to charter for the event (with stops for lunch and dinner).

2) Attend the Bryce Canyon Astronomy Festival and stay there to view the
eclipse.

3) Attend the Bryce Canyon Astronomy Festival and then leave there and drive
to Kanarraville for the eclipse.

4) Drive their own vehicle from home to the eclipse and then either stay the
night in the area or drive back home right after the eclipse.

5) Stay home and watch it on TV.

Ok, I made that last one up.  :)

Which choices do folks here plan to pursue?  No need to state a reason
(though you are welcome to).  Right now I'm just looking for numbers to take
to next week's SLAS board meeting.
