If your interested in any of the Astronomical things at Great Basin contact Kelly Carroll, one of the park rangers there. If you want the email send me an email and I will send it back to you. My email is available on the message board list serve. The public outreach is usually held up by the visitor site though afterwards there are some great spots up in the mountains, but not for a ton of people. Kelly does have some very good spots though. Wonderful place, especially if you want to go with just a small group of two to four or by yourself. Elevation can go from the valley floor up to around 10,000 feet. I do have a few extra copies of the GBNP Park Maps that Kelly sent me last March for their Messier Marathon that I handed out. I put Great Basin down on the schedule for August and will be going. If anyone wants to ride together and we can fit my stuff and your stuff in my Pathfinder your welcome to share the trip. On another note, next weekend approaches new moon and since I am not making the trip to Bryce I am probably going to go spend two nights up at Wolf Creek. Anyone else interested in heading up there? Well it is not a SLAS sanctioned event, you probably should contact the park. The web page has a contact us by e-mail link, but no e-mail address is given, you have to click on link to send them e-mail. Tom Sevick was the original person that tried to get SLAS officially involved in this.
Hi,
Is the camping free or do we have to pay the $12 fee like
everybody else?
Who do we contact if we are thinking of going? What is the elevation up there? I would think it would be a nice place to observe with less crowds and drunks. I bet the skies are really dark too.

This is over a month away, folks, forecasts are kind of useless this far ahead.
It is firmly entrenched in the monsoon season, but I remember a lot of cloudless, sunny skies in August in my half-century in the Great Basin.

We are planning to, but I'm worried about rain now. Need to check the forecast. Thanks, Joe
