I think the difference would be Bryce is open to the public. I read in Jay's message this was more of a closed star party. Not discounting the idea at all, but there are quite a few summer star parties, and there could be some conflict. They are in the south of course, since its darker there, maybe the idea is to have this one in the north. I'll watch with interest. Dan -- Sent from my iPhone. Please pardon any mispelings or errors. Seems like our is the Bryce Astronomy Festival, with 2 or 3 others becoming yearly events.
Many surrounding states have a major star party in the summer that is not
an outreach event, but is a star party for amateurs to gather. A few of us are going to organize for next summer the first Utah Star Party that will be open to any amateur who wants to come and observe. We will be meeting in January around full moon to begin planning and choosing a date, location etc. This is not affliated with any club or organization though they are of course welcome to participate, but is to be just an event open to anyone in Utah or the country to come and have four or five days of hopefully good observing in some of the best skies in the country. If your interested in helping to plan this please let me know at Jay.Eads at yahoo dot com (fix it to normal email).
Nothing to big, just a good time to go out and observe.
Thanks,
