I don't know them. I've just been here since 2010, and I've kept mostly to myself. I've only met some of the people who live close by. I rent a little cabin on the cattle ranch, so I don't have many neighbors!)

Carl,
Do you know Tom and Anita Keogh? They live just a few miles past La Sal.

Well, that family was out bird watching, using a terrestrial telescope. This seemed to be of some help, in fighting of a terrestrial bear. I live in La Sal, near Moab, and so I feel safer having an astronomical telescope... to protect me from extraterrestrial bears...
Actually, on those few occasions that I do bring my telescope out, I bring my loaded 12-Gauge shotgun out, also. I have seen a bear behind my cabin, and I once scared off a mountain lion when I stepped out onto my porch to look at the late-night sky... )

You can identify brown bears by their scat. Typically the droppings contain bear repellent canisters.

I'm kinda surprised that he didn't have a Smith & Wesson refractor. What kind of wildlife biologist goes into bear county without repellent or at least a large caliber weapon?
