Don I won't be able to make the Bryce Canyon Star Party. I have a wedding to go to. Jim "Don J. Colton" <djcolton@piol.com> wrote: Hi All Please let me know if you want to attend the Bryce Canyon Star Party June 17-19, 2004. Admission and camping is free if you bring a telescope and help out with the public star party, which usually occurrs from about 9:30 - 11:00 PM. After 11:00 PM most of the public has dispersed and we can stay up the rest of the night. We will meet at the Bryce Visitor Center, employee parking lot, each night about 8:00 PM to set up. The park service will turn off all the lights (except in the restrooms, which are not visible). The sky is very dark and the darkest of any national park according to Ranger Kevin Poe. Kevin plans to help us with our all nighter Saturday night with bacon wrapped filet cooked about midnight and perhaps even a Sunday morning breakfast. If you wish to attend and want free admission and camping please email me your vehicle type and camping preference: tent, trailer or motor home to djcolton@piol.com. If you already have a park pass and don't need camping just show up and you will be welcome.
From Salt Lake the best way and fastest to get to Bryce Canyon is take I-15 South to Highway 20 (which is about 19 miles south of Beaver). Highway 20 has been recently improved and is a good highway. Take Highway 20 to Highway 89 and go south past Panguitch on Highway 89 to Highway 12. Take Highway 12 to the turn off to Bryce Canyon (State Road 63). The Park begins just about 1 1/2 miles past Ruby's Inn on Highway 63. Ruby's Inn has a large restaurant, general store, auto repair facility and Best Western motel with about 300 rooms. I will be staying at Ruby's Inn. It is about 3 miles from where we set up in the employee parking lot at the Bryce Visitors Center.
Total drive time according to Patrick Wiggins, who goes there every month for a presentation, is about 4 hours. All roads are paved and well maintained. If you have already emailed me your info you don't need to do it again.
